• The Senior Technical lead plays a key role in the delivery of high quality IT systems to support the R&D goals. As part of the role he/she:
•Ensures that solutions comply with approved architectural standards and strategic vision
•Ensures that solutions are designed to meet quality and compliance requirements, including regulatory expectations for validated systems
•Ensures that all development team members, including offshore and third-party partners, adhere to policies
•Seeks to design solutions that minimize support burden yet still meet business needs
•Identifies project risks to Project and Programme Managers and provides resolutions
•Ensures that IT solutions are constructed with good craftsmanship using resources at a variety of skill levels and domain experience
•Develops architectural designs for large/complex project teams or programmes working on business solutions. Designs will be implementations of Target Architecture and Information Architectures that are flexible, scalable, extensible, efficient, supportable, easy to use, and meet business requirements and standards.
•Consistently applies design and architecture patterns and best practices to project and programme solutions.
•Prepares materials in support of gate review process, including architecture diagrams and technical evaluations of alternative implementations and presents them at architectural review boards.
•Produces business perspective of the system architecture both technical information relevant to the customer.
•Creates production-ready technical solutions. On agile projects this will include several increasingly capable solutions delivered in a series of iterations.
•Estimates development effort in support of project planning and management processes including total cost of ownership calculations. Provides estimates for multiple solution options where appropriate.
•Produces and reviews relevant project documentation including system requirements and design specification.
•Produces and follows support transition plans, including providing the support teams with technical information about the solution on an ongoing, as-needed basis until warranty is complete.
•Contributes to technology stack definitions and recommends use across SDS.
•Evaluates and recommends emerging technologies and development methodologies.
•Evaluates package solutions.
•Enforces license models of third-party applications
•Designs and leads delivery of solutions for large-scale, complex environments
•May provide high-level technical and/or architectural input to several projects at once.
•Manages a highly-matrixed solution development team with members from multiple sites, other countries, and external companies
•Identify opportunities to improve architectural designs that cross solution boundaries, working with Enterprise Architect to reconcile with Target Architecture Plan
•Maintains familiarity with architectural standards and vision, R&D Technology Roadmap, technical landscape, validation requirements, central service request processes.
•Keeps abreast of and advise on emerging technologies, new development methodologies, and other industry trends.
•Audits and reviews technical solutions provided by third parties and ensures technical components are fit for purpose.
•Applies lean sigma techniques to improve solution quality.
